The Two Million Mile Honeymoon Luxury Travel at Budget Rates

About Matt & Dhara

Hi, I am Matt Berg and together with my wife Dhara Desai we write “The 2 Million Mile Honeymoon”.  I recently left my six figure job as an engineer in New York City to follow my dream of traveling the world and writing about my experiences.  I have traveled extensively in the past but almost always as a backpacker, sleeping in hostels and flying economy.  I wanted to share my passion for travel with my new wife but as we get into our 30’s the idea of overnight economy flights and hostel dorm rooms doesn’t have the same appeal as it did in our early 20’s.  Luckily, since we discovered miles and points a few years ago we can fly in comfort and stay at luxury properties for less than what I used to pay as a backpacker.  Though, to be honest we still sometimes have a better time staying in a private room at an interesting hostel than at a stuffy 5 star hotel, but it’s nice to have the option!

I’ve used miles to get myself to China

Chengdu, China

I’ve used miles to get myself to Africa

Antelope Park, Zimbabwe

I’ve used miles to get us to Peru

Aguas Calientes, Peru

And over the next 18 months we intend to burn over two million more miles we have been saving up for our honeymoon as we travel to dozens of countries on all seven continents.  We are going to do it in luxury for pennies, and best of all, we’re going to show you how you can do it too.

Great blog! Looking forward to following you two love birds on your amazing journey!

  5. Hey Matt! I am reading through your blog and love the pointers on how to maximize your miles. Do you have recommendations on destinations? What have been some of your favorite places, especially taking into account getting the most bang for your buck.

  6. Hey Lauren! Generally, to maximize my value for miles I tend to use them on the longest flights I can find in the best cabin available; such as Business or First Class flights to Africa, Australia or Asia. I’ve flown to all those places in Economy before and it was no picnic – so getting lounge access, nice meals, top shelf booze and a seat that turns into a bed makes a huge difference on those longhauls that can top 24hrs in total.

And the best part is that you can get flights to far flung places like Bali (at least 24 hours from NYC with connections) for 10-20% more miles than you would pay for a simple 7hr flight to London. And (if you have the miles to get there) an exotic Thai or Balinese Beach Vacation can actually be far cheaper than what you might pay for a simple trip to the Caribbean…something to think about :)

This is absolutely amazing. I am interested in learning to do this as I can scuba dive all over the world. I got my first mileage Credit Card a few weeks ago.
I look forward to reading about your adventures and “know how”.

all the best to you both.
