The Two Million Mile Honeymoon Luxury Travel at Budget Rates

InterContinental The Clement – Monterey, California

InterContinental The Clement is a luxury hotel located on the historic Cannery Row overlooking Monterey Bay. The room we were assigned (Partial View Balcony) was going for about $800 per night during our stay, but we were able to book one night with our annual IHG credit card free night certificate.

The hotel, located next to the Monterey Aquarium, actually occupies two large buildings on either side of Cannery Row which are connected by a walkway on the second floor.

The building away from the water housed the pool and gym, as well as most of the standard rooms. Though we booked a standard award room we were upgraded to a room with a water view because of our IHG Platinum Status (Platinum Status is automatic with the IHG credit card). The waterside building is shaped like a horseshoe with the nicest suites directly facing Monterey Bay.

The second best rooms (our room) are located on the inside of the horseshoe and offer juliet balconies with views of the bay from the Pacific View Courtyard.

Our room, on the 3rd floor, was large, comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom was huge and contained a separate shower and tub. Additionally, there was a stuffed whale on our bed (it had a pricetag of $18.99 on it, not free like at the Conrad Maldives) and a tiny zen sand garden–very Northern California. It was certainly a very nice room but the huge selling point of the room (and the hotel, in general) is the location and the views.

InterContinental The Clement was a great stop on our road trip down the California coast and using our free night certificate to stay there was a fantastic deal.
