The Two Million Mile Honeymoon Luxury Travel at Budget Rates

Cathay Pacific Business Class 777 HKG-JFK

On our way home from Asia we again had the option of flying Cathay Pacific First Class with a connection in Los Angeles or Cathay Business Class direct to New York.  Since we already experienced Cathay Pacific First Class on our outbound flight we opted for the direct Business Class flight.

Cathay Pacific Business Class

Just like Lufthansa and Swiss, Cathay Pacific arranges their first two rows of Business Class seats in a separate “mini-cabin” away from the rest of their Business Class seats.  Whenever it’s available I always book us into this mini-cabin as it’s smaller, quieter, and a bit more private.  Cathay’s forward min-cabin consists of just 8 seats.

Usually, these are the 8 most popular seats to book on these flights but for some reason there was only one other person seated in the forward mini-cabin which made it even more private.

Empty Seats

Cathay utilizes fully flat reverse-herringbone style seats in a 1-2-1 configuration which all offer direct aisle access.  These seats often get great reviews and after finally flying in them we agree that these are the best Business Class seats we have ever flown in.  The window seats are perfect for solo travelers as they are both aisle and window seats and offer a lot of privacy.

Window Seat – Perfect for Solo Travelers

We chose the middle seats which are perfect for a couple travelling together – though you can always make them more private with the privacy screen if you’re travelling solo.

Shortly after takeoff we were handed amenities kits and dinner menus.

Dinner Menu

For dinner I ordered the Australian Beef Tenderloin and a glass of Merlot.

After dinner I watched Captain America 2 on the personal AVOD screen while Dhara immediately took advantage of the lie flat seats for a nap.

Comfortable & Private

About halfway through the movie I ordered a hamburger off of the snack menu which took them about 15 minutes to prepare and really hit the spot.

Midnight Snack

The rest of the 16 hour transit from Hong Kong to New York was uneventful, comfortable and relaxing.  They offered breakfast before landing in JFK but we declined.  I have now done Transpacific flights with Cathay Pacific in First, Business, and Economy Class and think they offer the best longhaul product I have ever flown in each respective class.
